In October, Royston Maldoom and Nanni Kloke will start a multi-year HUMANexperience project with young people from the refugee camp and the island of Lesbos.
‘It is a matter close to my heart,’ says Nanni Kloke, ‘to create spaces where young people can experience strength, hope and dignity through music and dance in the appalling conditions there. Together with local partners, we will create a safe space to create bridges for tolerance and understanding.’
The concept of HUMANexperience is to express themes such as community, home, freedom … with music and self-developed creative dance sequences in DANCING POEMS. This will be supported by pieces from the ‘HUMAN orchestral work’ by Helge Burggrabe as well as excerpts from the work ‘Harmonielehre’ by John Adams.
The British choreographer Royston Maldoom has been directing community dance projects worldwide for many decades. His moving work has become well-known to a broad public, especially through the film ‘Rhythm is It!’ with pupils from Berlin-Neukölln as well as Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (2004). Nanni Kloke works as a dancer and choreographer. She has collaborated with Royston Maldoom for many years and is the founding director of the Art for Peace Foundation, an organisation that inspires a culture of peace and hope through art and intercultural learning.
